Lucía Siwy is a Mexican-Polish violinist. She established herself professionally in London, United Kingdom (2009). After eleven years in Europe,  she returned to her homeland, Mexico in 2013, to become Concertmaster of the Querétaro State Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2015 she has been living in Auckland, New Zealand, and working with Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.

She won first prize at the National Violin Competition ¨Hermilo Novelo¨ in Mexico City (1997), and became “very highly commended” at the Wolfinsohn String Quartet Prize in London (2009). She has given the European, Polish and Italian premieres of the Violin Concerto-Poema “Birth, Life and Death of a Being” by Ryszard Siwy. Her solo appearances include Filharmonia Śląska in Poland, London Chamber Players, Southbank Sinfonia in the United Kingdom and in Italy, Orquesta Filarmónica del Estado de Querétaro, and Filarmónica de Acapulco in Mexico under the direction of José Guadalupe Flores, Stephen Barlow, Eduardo Álvarez, Christian Karlsen and Jonathan Berman.

She was the founder and leader of the Kaxan String Quartet from 2007 until 2011, having performed in numerous venues across the UK including a recital at St. Martin-in-the-Fields and a tour of Bahrain. Lucía has been invited to lead various chamber orchestras such as Southbank Sinfonia at St. Martin-in the-Fields with the Vasari Singers under the direction of Jeremy Backhouse, Kurt Weill´s Street Scene at London Young Vic Theatre and on tour throughout the UK, London Classical Soloists and opera and ballet productions by the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden such as Ludd and Isis, La Voix Humaine and Random Dance consisting of a contemporary dance project with a string quartet on stage under the direction of choreographer Robert Binet. She has also collaborated with Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, London Chamber Players, BBC Concert Orchestra, Brandenburg Sinfonia, London Sinfonietta and Ulster Orchestra in Belfast, Northern Ireland. In Mexico Lucía has been invited to join the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería and has also collaborated as guest Principal Second Violin for the Orchestra of the Opera in Mexico City (OTBA).

 As a chamber musician she has performed in prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, Linbury Theatre (Royal Opera House), Royal Festival Hall, Barbican Centre, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Westminster Palace (House of Parliament), St. George’s Hanover Square, Abby Road Studios, , St.Martin in the Fields,  Sadler´s Wells Theatre and St. George´s Chapel at Windsor. Being part of Southbank Sinfonia un 2010, she has shared stage with members of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Royal Opera House, Brodsky Quartet, as well as with baroque musicians Adrian Butterfield and Matthew Truscott. She has worked with conductors such as Sir Colin Davis, Neeme Järvi, Sir Charles Mackerras, Barry Wordsworth, Michael Collis, Nicholas Cleobury,  Peter Robinson, Vasily Petrenko and Vladimir Ashkenazy, among others.

She has always had an interested in contemporary music. Besides the strong professional relationship with her father, Ryszard Siwy,  she has also worked with other composers such as Roi Nachshon, Alexander Campkin and Zbigniew Wolny as well performing their pieces in world premieres in Holland and the United Kingdom. She was a member of the Manson Ensemble  which collaborated in the UK premiere of Luigi Nono´s masterpiece ‘Prometeo’ at the Royal Festival Hall

Lucia studied with Igor Petrushevski at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she earned a Masters degree with Distinction. She also studied at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, Holland, and at Akademia Muzyczna w Krakowie, Poland.

She has also been under the guidance of Zino Vinnikov, Robert Kabara, Ilona Sie Dhian Ho, Jaring Walta, Erasmo Capilla and Agnieszka Maklakiewicz and taken master classes with Andrzej Siwy, Mauricio Fuks, Alexander Kalashkov, Sergey Kravchenko and a baroque music course with the Academy of Ancient Music under the direction of Richard Egarr. 

Lucía was awarded scholarships from Visser Fonds, Oskar Back Fonds, FONCA (National Fund for Culture and Arts) and the government of Veracruz.

She has given violin courses and masterclasses at the Faculty of Music of the University of Veracruz (Facultad de Música de la Universidad Veracruzana), at the Superior Institute of Music of the Veracruz State (Instituto Superior de Música del Estado de Veracruz) and at the Music Postgraduate Mexican Centre(Centro Mexicano de Posgrado en Música A.C.). She also holds a LRAM Diploma  (Violin Teacher) by the Royal Academy of Music, with experience in teaching young children for more than 17 years.
